Fireface UCX

The Fireface UCX provides 8 analog, SPDIF and ADAT channels, 36 channels in total (18 in, 18 out), all usable at once. The two front-panel XLR/TRS combo inputs carry mic/line preamps with up to 65 dB of digitally controlled gain in 1 dB steps and individually switchable 48V phantom power. The two further front line inputs can serve as instrument inputs. AutoSet lowers the gain automatically when the signal approaches -6 dBFS, protecting the converter without adding analog circuitry to the path.

TotalMix FX runs on onboard DSP and handles routing and mixing of all channels, with per-channel 3-band parametric EQ, low cut, compressor, expander and auto level, plus a shared reverb and echo send/return that works up to 192 kHz. A control room section with a multifunction encoder lets the unit act as a monitor controller. The optional Advanced Remote Control adds volume, dim and recall functions and programmable keys.

The unit connects to a computer over USB 2.0 (USB 3 compatible) or FireWire 400, using RME's own HFX-Core with separate firmware tuned for Windows and macOS. A class compliant mode needs no driver and allows operation with an iPad. Digital connections are coaxial SPDIF, an ADAT port that can alternatively act as optical SPDIF, BNC wordclock I/O and two MIDI I/Os via breakout cable. SteadyClock jitter suppression and DIGICheck analysis tools are included.
