Compact fiber extender that converts 3G-SDI to fiber and fiber back to SDI, so one unit works as either transmitter or receiver. Intended for long-distance HD video links, such as rail platforms and field exercises.

The MSP 217 is a small SDI-to-fiber transceiver. A single unit can be used as a transmitter, taking SDI in and sending it over fiber, or as a receiver, turning the fiber signal back into SDI. This lets the same model serve both ends of a link.
Transmission distance depends on the SFP+ module fitted. The unit adjusts automatically between 3 Gbps and 10 Gbps SFP modules. It detects the input format by itself and passes embedded audio through with the video. The maker describes the link as stable and the housing as miniature.
The maker positions it for high-definition video transmission in settings such as train platforms and military exercises. It is part of the MSP micro converter series, and a specification sheet (version 1.4, dated 2023-05-15) is available for download.
