The Isis Ref is a CD player that uses a custom Rega digital servo and chip-set designed for accurate data recovery from the disc. It analyses each disc on loading and adjusts itself for reliable reading, so it can often play discs with marks or scratches. Rega states it was five years in development.
The analogue section uses two Burr Brown PCM1794 DACs in parallel dual mono mode, feeding a discrete class A current-to-voltage stage and output amplifier. The circuit is fully balanced from the DACs to the XLR outputs. Separate 50 VA transformers supply the analogue and digital sections, with a total of 20 separate regulators and Rega K-Power smoothing capacitors.
A USB input with an isolated, double-clocked interface lets a computer act as a source through the internal DAC. The case is CNC-machined solid anodised aluminium and the unit weighs 19 kg. It carries Rega's lifetime limited warranty against manufacturing defects.
