The Ios Reference is a phono stage devoted solely to moving-coil cartridges. It uses a four-stage, fully symmetrical amplifier. The first stage is a 1:10 step-up transformer whose loading and Zobel DC resistance correction network can be matched to the cartridge. The second and third stages are symmetrical class A designs, with the RIAA equalization split between passive high-frequency and active low-frequency parts. The fourth stage is an active filter built around a very high bandwidth operational amplifier.
The power supply is a symmetrical, discrete tracking design with fast diodes and a low-noise voltage reference. Each stage has its own local supply and LED-referenced current generators. Polypropylene capacitors are used in the signal path, with 1% tolerance parts in the RIAA equalization stages.
Controls include adjustable gain and load, plus mute and mono functions. Inputs use gold-plated sockets, and the output is balanced XLR with ultra-low capacitance cabling. The unit sits in the Reference range casework, matching the Isis and Osiris.
