Apheta 2

The Apheta 2 is the second generation of Rega's moving coil cartridge. Its coil is wound by hand on an iron cross that is 50% smaller than the one in the original Apheta, which lowers moving mass so the stylus can follow the groove more closely. A neodymium magnet and fine wire complete the generator, and the stylus is a Vital profile nude diamond.
Unlike conventional MC designs, it uses neither a steel tie wire nor a foam damper, avoiding the resonance and ageing problems associated with that approach. The body is a single-piece anodised aluminium moulding, and a rigid clear cover protects the internal fine wires while the cartridge is being fitted.
Electrically it has a 350 µV nominal output, 10 ohm output impedance and a recommended 100 ohm input load. Tracking force is 1.75–2.00 g. It is intended to pair with the Rega RP8 and RP10 turntables and the Aria MM/MC phono stage, and an instruction sleeve is available as a download.
