Aphelion

The Aphelion is a moving coil cartridge built by hand and developed over two years. It builds on the technology of the Apheta 2 with a new boron rod cantilever for added stiffness and tracking accuracy. The stylus is a nude diamond with a 'Vital' profile, rotated through 90 degrees to make the diamond mount more rigid.

The generator uses a neodymium magnet and a coil hand wound with 0.018mm fine wire on an iron micro cross. This assembly is described as 50 percent smaller than that of the original design, which lowers the moving mass and helps the stylus follow the groove.

The body is a single-piece, black anodised aluminium part that was redesigned for this model. A clear rigid cover, designed in CAD, shields the internal fine wires while the cartridge is being fitted. Being a low-output moving coil design, it is loaded at 100 ohms and is used with a phono stage that accepts MC cartridges. A manual is available as a download.
