Aphelion 2

The Aphelion 2 is a moving coil cartridge built around an iron micro cross and a hand-wound coil assembly mounted directly on a boron rod cantilever. The nude diamond stylus has a fine line profile and is mounted rotated through 90 degrees, which gives a very stiff, well-controlled stylus. The body is machined from a single piece of aluminium with graded tolerances, and the generator uses a compact neodymium magnet system and 0.018 mm wire.

The design is undamped: it uses no tie wire and no foam damper, relying instead on a rhomboid cantilever pivot. This avoids the high-frequency resonance associated with conventional tie-wire suspensions. It is the successor to the original Aphelion and takes in developments from the Apheta 3.

As a low-output MC cartridge it needs a suitable moving coil phono stage or a step-up stage. Recommended load settings for adjustable stages are 100 Ω, 1000 pF and high gain. It is designed to complement the reference range of Rega turntables, including the Naiad, and carries a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects.
