The StageBug SB-5 is a small passive direct box for feeding the audio from laptops, tablets, smartphones and other consumer playback devices into a PA or mixing console. A permanently attached cable ends in a 3.5mm stereo plug that goes straight into the headphone output of the source device.
Two custom-wound transformers isolate the left and right signals to reduce hum and buzz and balance the audio for long cable runs. Stereo operation uses a pair of 1/4" TRS outputs, while a mono XLR output sums the signal to save a channel on the PA. A ground lift switch helps with ground loop noise and a pad switch reduces the level from hot sources to avoid distortion.
No power is needed, so the unit works without batteries or phantom power. A sidewinder cleat on the body stores the cable, and an optional SB-5 Bracket allows the box to be fixed to a desktop or inside a rack.
