LX-3

The LX-3 takes a single line-level signal and distributes it to three XLR outputs. Two of the outputs are transformer-isolated, which helps remove hum and buzz caused by ground loops, and the third is a direct output. Each output has its own ground lift switch for further noise control.

The transformer is a Jensen design, chosen for frequency response, level handling and low distortion. A switchable -12dB pad on the input allows very hot line sources to be connected without overload. The isolated outputs are balanced automatically, so unbalanced sources can still feed long cable runs without interference.

Input is through a combo jack that accepts either an XLR or a 1/4" TRS connector, balanced or unbalanced. Typical uses include sending one mono signal to several headphone mixes, feeding a click track to personal monitor mixers, splitting a preamp to multiple compressors or effects, and sending a console feed to up to three portable recorders.
