Z-4

The Z-4 is a floor-standing loudspeaker in Quad's Z Series ribbon range. It is a three-way design: a 90x12mm true ribbon handles the treble, a 150mm glass-fibre driver covers the midrange, and three 165mm glass-fibre drivers handle the bass. The ribbon tweeter uses a layered, sandwich-style construction intended to make it robust enough for high power while keeping the delicate character associated with ribbon designs.

The 43-litre bass-reflex cabinet has curved sides and a piano-lacquer finish. It is offered in piano black, piano white and piano rosewood. Crossover points are 300Hz and 3.5kHz. Frequency response is 47Hz to 20kHz (±3dB), with bass extension to 40Hz (-6dB).

Sensitivity is 90dB (1W at 1m) and nominal impedance is 4Ω, dipping to 3.6Ω at the minimum, so the speaker suits amplifiers rated at 60–250W. It is a passive speaker and connects to an amplifier through its speaker terminals. A brochure and manual are available as downloads.
