Z-1

The Z-1 is the bookshelf model in Quad's Z Series of ribbon loudspeakers. It is a two-way, bass-reflex design with a 10-litre cabinet. A 150mm glass fibre driver handles the bass and a 90x12mm true ribbon handles the treble, with the crossover set at 3.4kHz. The ribbon tweeter uses a sandwich construction intended to make the unit robust and able to take high power while keeping the light, detailed sound associated with ribbon designs.

The stated frequency response is 56Hz to 20kHz (+/-3dB), with bass extension to 48Hz at -6dB. Sensitivity is 86dB (1W at 1m) and peak SPL is 102dB. Nominal impedance is 8Ω, falling to a minimum of 4.6Ω, and the recommended amplifier power is 40-150W. The speaker is not an AV-shielded model.

The cabinet is curved and finished in piano lacquer, offered in black, white and rosewood. Connection is by conventional speaker cable from an external amplifier. A brochure and manual are available as downloads. The Z-1 sits alongside the Z-2, Z-3, Z-4 and Z-C in the range.
