The QC Twenty Four P is a phono preamplifier built around four 6111 valves. A toggle switch selects between moving magnet and moving coil cartridges, and three gain settings cover cartridges of differing output. The RIAA/IEC equalised response runs from 20Hz to 20kHz within ±0.5dB.
Two line-level outputs are provided: one at a fixed level and one with a variable level control, so the unit can be used with different kinds of amplification. Unlike Quad's power amplifiers, the preamplifier circuit is a new design. It uses specially designed transformers and relay input switching, following the idea of an amplifier acting as 'a straight wire with gain'.
The unit has one selectable MM/MC cartridge input. Input impedance is 47k for moving magnet and 10 ohms for moving coil. Power consumption is 15VA maximum, and the case measures 90 x 220 x 300mm.
