ESL 2912X

The ESL 2912X is a dipole electrostatic loudspeaker with a fixed 3° tilt. Each side uses six panel elements with a Mylar diaphragm held at a constant charge of roughly 5.25 kV between perforated metal stators. The mid and high frequency panels use concentric ring electrodes with a progressive delay line, so the sound behaves like a point source.

The X revision splits the electronics into separate modules: a high-voltage multiplier, a control and protection module, and a low-voltage signal module. It also adds UK-made audio transformers, a new grille cloth and a low-reflection matt black finish without wood trim. An optional LED halo lights the speaker from underneath, with touch control and adjustable brightness. Protection circuits mute the output on faults such as arcing or overdrive.

The speaker takes a normal loudspeaker-level signal from an amplifier (8 ohm nominal impedance) and also needs mains power to generate the panel charge. It covers 32 Hz to 21 kHz (-6 dB) and stands 1470 mm tall.
