The ESL 2912 is a floor-standing dipole electrostatic loudspeaker with a fixed 3 degree tilt. It is a current model in the ESL range alongside the ESL 2812, with revisited circuitry and components around the established mylar diaphragm. Sound is produced by multiple electrostatic drive membranes arranged as six panel elements, with progressive concentric rings used for time delay.
The chassis is a heavy-duty composite of aluminium and steel. Quoted frequency response runs from 32Hz to 21kHz at -6dB, with a useable range starting at 28Hz. Sensitivity is given as 1.5mbar per volt referred to 1m, equivalent to 86 dB at 2.83V RMS, and impedance varies between 4 and 20 ohms across the band.
The speaker takes its signal from an amplifier. Continuous input is rated at 10V RMS, programme peaks of up to 40V stay undistorted, and permitted peak input is 55V. Distortion at 100dB at 1m is stated as 0.15% above 1000Hz, 0.5% above 100Hz and 1.0% above 50Hz.
