The ESL 2812 is a floor-standing dipole electrostatic loudspeaker and part of the latest generation of Quad's ESL range. It keeps the mylar diaphragm used throughout the series, while the circuitry and components have been re-evaluated. Four panel elements make up the drive system, and progressive concentric rings provide the time delay.
The chassis is a heavy-duty composite of aluminium and steel, and the speaker has a fixed 3-degree tilt. Nominal impedance is 8 ohms, varying between 4 and 15 ohms. Sensitivity is stated as 1.5 mbar per volt referred to 1 m, equivalent to 86 dB at 2.83 V RMS. Frequency response is 37 Hz to 21 kHz at -6 dB, and 33 Hz to 23 kHz usable.
Continuous input is rated at 10 V RMS, with programme peaks of 40 V for undistorted output and a permitted peak of 55 V. The ESL 2812 sits alongside the ESL 2812X, ESL 2912 and ESL 2912X in the range. A brochure and manual are available for download.
