The QUAD 3 combines a 65 W per channel (8 ohm) Class AB power amplifier with a preamp, a 32-bit ES9038Q2M DAC and a Class A post-DAC filter stage. The amplifier is fed by a 235VA toroidal transformer and a 30,000uF reservoir, and is rated at 100 W per channel into 4 ohms. Its styling draws on the QUAD 22 pre-amplifier, with an orange-lit LCD strip and a row of digital encoders for volume, source, balance, bass and Tilt.
On the digital side it offers USB-B (PCM up to 768kHz and DSD up to DSD512), coaxial and optical S/PDIF (up to 192kHz), HDMI ARC and Bluetooth 5.1 with aptX and aptX HD. S/PDIF and USB audio can be upsampled to 352.8kHz or 384kHz. Analogue sources connect through two line-level RCA inputs and a dedicated low-noise MM phono input.
The bass control adjusts the low end by +/-3dB. The Tilt control shifts bass and treble in opposite directions in 1dB steps around a 700Hz axis. A separate current-feedback headphone amplifier, a pre-out, a 12V trigger and a full-function remote are included, and firmware can be updated over USB.
