The QUAD 33 is an analogue stereo preamplifier with microprocessor-controlled volume, a switchable MM/MC phono stage, balanced XLR and RCA connections and a headphone amplifier. It is a modern reissue of the 1960s original, intended for hi-fi listeners building a pre/power system, typically with the QUAD 303 power amplifier.

The QUAD 33 is a stereo preamplifier that keeps an analogue signal path while using a microprocessor to manage control functions. Volume is set by a motorised ALPS potentiometer that turns by itself when the remote control is used. A backlit LCD and illuminated buttons show input and mode, and their brightness and contrast can be adjusted.
Tone shaping is handled by bass (-3dB to +3dB), balance and the QUAD Tilt control, which shifts the tonal balance around a 700Hz axis in 1dB steps. The phono stage works with moving magnet and moving coil cartridges and can be switched between them without board changes. A separate current-feedback headphone amplifier is included, and the power supply uses a toroidal transformer with five regulated rails.
Inputs comprise three RCA line inputs, one balanced XLR pair and the phono input. Outputs include an RCA pre-out, an XLR pre-out, an RCA AUX output, a headphone socket and two 12V trigger outputs. The chassis is all-metal with an anodised front panel in Classic QUAD Grey, and a remote control is supplied.
