The Q Active 400 is a true active design: each speaker has its own class D amplification, so no external amp or receiver is needed. Each cabinet houses two 58mm BMR drivers in an offset arrangement and two rear-firing 114mm subwoofers, with a 150Hz crossover point. Dart bracing stiffens the cabinet and steadies the subwoofers. The system is rated at 440W peak per speaker.
A compact Control Hub is supplied with each pair. It has Chromecast built-in and supports Apple AirPlay 2, Roon and Spotify, and it works with Google Assistant or Apple Siri for voice control. The Hub joins the home network by ethernet or Wi-Fi, and also offers Bluetooth 4.2 LE.
Wired sources connect to the Hub through optical, HDMI ARC or an analogue input that can be set to line level or phono MM, so a TV, turntable or games console can be added. The Hub converts these inputs to digital and sends them to the speakers over a 5.8GHz wireless link at up to 24bit/96kHz. It is available in black or white.
