5040· Colunas

The 5040 is a two-and-a-half-way style floorstander sold as a pair, built around two 125 mm (5.0 in) mid/bass drivers and a 25 mm (1.0 in) high-frequency driver. The mid/bass cones use a continuous curved profile paired with large magnets and voice coils, which is stated to raise power handling by 50% over a comparable driver with a 25.4 mm voice coil.

The tweeter is hermetically sealed and mechanically isolated from the baffle, so pressure inside the cabinet and movement of the neighbouring mid/bass driver do not reach it. The cabinet uses Point-2-Point internal bracing to stiffen the enclosure, and Helmholtz Pressure Equaliser tubes inside to reduce internal pressure and standing waves. The baffle is laminated with butyl rubber and finished with black acrylic trim, with no visible fixings on the front.

Connection is by loudspeaker cable to an amplifier; the nominal impedance is 6 Ω and the recommended amplifier power is 25–150 W. Four finishes are offered: Satin Black, Satin White, Holme Oak and Santos Rosewood. Spike feet, covers and rear stabilisers are supplied for setup, along with grilles.
