The Phono Box DS3 B is a phono preamplifier built around a fully symmetrical gain stage and entirely discrete circuitry, with no op-amps in the audio path. The RIAA equalisation is passive and split, and the design is dual mono. The housing combines a steel chassis with aluminium panels to resist interference.
Two turntables can be connected at once, and the settings for each input are stored in memory. Gain runs from 40 to 65 dB in steps, capacitance can be set to four values, and load impedance can be adjusted steplessly from 10 to 1000 ohms (or fixed at 47 kOhms). This allows the unit to be matched to MM and MC cartridges, including low-output moving-iron types, and the loading can be changed during playback.
Inputs are a 5-pin mini XLR, a pair of XLR and a pair of RCA. Line-level outputs are a pair of RCA and a pair of XLR. The unit supports the maker's True Balanced Connection cabling, and a 12V trigger input/output is fitted. It is powered by an external 18V DC supply and comes in silver or black, with magnetic wooden side panels sold separately.
