The CD Box S3 plays Red Book CD-DA discs only, using a drive tuned for 1:1 bit-accurate playback. A slot-in mechanism pulls the disc in and has it ready to play after a few seconds. The built-in PCM5102 converter handles digital-to-analog conversion for the analog output.
The player is the first model in the S3 size and has a full aluminium case, described as torsion-resistant, plus a 1.54" display with a colour inversion function that shows playback information. It is available in silver or black and comes with a battery-powered remote control. The unit is made in Europe.
For connections, one pair of RCA outputs can feed any preamp or amplifier, while a coaxial S/PDIF output sends the digital signal to an external DAC. Power comes from an external 9V/2A DC supply, and standby consumption is below 0.5 W.
