The CD Box DS3 is a compact CD-only player and the first model of the DS3 line. It plays Red Book CD-DA discs and uses a Blue Tiger CD-80 servo from Stream Unlimited. The drive sits in a solid aluminium chassis, and a suspension with three soft points and one hard point separates it from outside vibration while passing laser-movement vibration into the chassis.
Audio is converted by an internal Texas Instruments PCM1796 DAC and sent to one pair of RCA line outputs. For use with an external DAC there are also coaxial S/PDIF and optical TOSlink digital outputs. A high-contrast dot-matrix display shows playback information, and the player is operated from the front buttons or the supplied remote control, which takes two AAA batteries.
The unit is available in silver or black. It measures 206 x 72 x 194 mm and weighs 1660 g without its external 18 V / 1 A DC power supply, drawing under 0.5 W in standby.
