The MB3 XBD-A is a 3-way active reference monitor built as two cabinets per side. The second cabinet is devoted entirely to bass and carries an extra 12-inch Radial driver, which adds 3dB of headroom below the 380Hz bass crossover frequency compared with the single-cabinet MB3. The system reaches a maximum SPL of 129dB and has a frequency response of 20Hz-25kHz. Its range makes separate subwoofers unnecessary.
The system uses Advanced Transmission Line (ATL) bass loading with an effective length of 2 x 3 metres. Drive units are two 310mm (12-inch) Radial LF drivers, a hand-built 75mm soft-dome midrange and a 34mm soft-dome tweeter with an acoustic radiator. Crossover points are 380Hz and 3.8kHz, and total amplification is 3225W per channel, split across the HF, MF and LF bands.
The two cabinets can stand freely or be soffit-mounted, and can be placed vertically or side by side. Input is digital AES3 at 24-bit/96kHz, with a balanced analogue input impedance of 20k and adjustable sensitivity. A matching low-profile centre channel, the MB3 XBD-C-A, is available for multi-channel setups.
