Scales
Scales is a weight-to-MIDI instrument: objects placed on its plate set the pitch, with heavier items giving higher notes. It suits musicians, educators and experimenters who want to play melodies, drones and arpeggios using everyday objects up to 3 kg.

Scales is a small MIDI controller with a weight-sensing plate. Whatever is placed on the plate is read as a weight, and that weight is mapped to a pitch, so heavier objects play higher notes. Items up to 3 kg can be used, and sensitivity can be adjusted to suit light or heavy objects.
There are five modes. Arpeggio mode builds simple looping sequences, and the tempo of the arpeggio can also be set by weight. Hold mode captures notes so chords can be played. Other modes add detuned, weight-responsive textures for movement, and objects can be shifted on the plate to improvise live. Buttons on the device switch modes, add notes and shape the sound.
Scales connects to a smartphone, tablet or laptop, and a TRS MIDI output allows it to drive a hardware synth directly. A USB-C cable is supplied. The device is sold in a randomly assigned colour.
