The SPU GTX S is a moving coil cartridge in the SPU line. It has a spherical stylus, the most common tip shape, which rests in the groove walls with a rounded profile. The cartridge is voiced for a warm, tonally rich sound in the SPU tradition.
Its main practical feature is a step-up transformer built into the body, developed with Lundahl Transformers. Because of it, the cartridge can be connected to a phono stage or amplifier with a moving magnet input, so a separate step-up unit or MC stage is not needed.
The unibody housing is moulded in one piece from a glass-fiber reinforced co-polymer, a material not used before on SPU cartridges, with a bottom cover in the same material. The cartridge is hand-built in Denmark and mounts with a bayonet/SME connection. The GTX E version shares this construction but uses an elliptical diamond.
