Description
The Fur Coat is a fuzz pedal whose circuit is loosely based on the Foxx Tone Machine. It gives thick, saturated fuzz with long sustain and reacts to playing dynamics instead of masking them. The front panel has four controls: Volume, EQ, Octave and Fuzz.
A footswitch-activated octave-up adds an upper harmonic for glitchy, metallic textures, and can be left off for plain fuzz. The active EQ control is used to boost or scoop the mids. Two stomp functions, Activate Octave and Activate Fuzz, let the player switch between pure fuzz and octave fuzz mid-song. The pedal is voiced for guitar but is also suitable for bass, keeping low-end weight.
It runs from standard 9 V power and draws 3 mA at 9 V and 5 mA at 12 V, so it is usable with a battery or on a crowded pedalboard. It is intended to sit first in the signal chain.
