The R1 is a closed-back, circumaural headphone built for monitoring while recording. Its isolation lowers outside sound and the bleed reaching a microphone by about 10 dBSPL, which is perceived as roughly half the volume. The tuning is U-shaped, with emphasised bass and treble, so performers can feel the groove during a take. It is not intended as a flat mixing reference; the maker points to its X1 open-back model for that.
The drivers are 50 mm dynamic neodymium units with a composite PU+PET membrane, matched left to right within +/-1 dB. At about 32 ohms and 110 dBSPL sensitivity they are designed to play loudly from phones and interfaces alike. The cups are American walnut and the headband is stainless steel with silicone and a self-adjusting artificial leather strap. The cups rotate and tilt, and the earpads change without tools. Drivers, pads, headband, strap and cable can all be replaced with home tools.
The 2 m detachable silicone Y-cable ends in dual mini XLR connectors at the cups and a 3.5 mm jack, with a screw-on adapter to 6.3 mm. Aftermarket mini XLR cables are compatible. A balanced cable is not offered by the maker.
