Impulse 61 combines a 61-note, piano-style semi-weighted keybed with velocity sensitivity and assignable aftertouch. Its scanning system reads the keys 10,000 times per second. Pitch bend and modulation wheels and two octave/transpose buttons sit beside the keys.
The control surface has eight endless encoders, nine sliders, mute/solo buttons, six transport controls and a blue-backlit LCD. Eight multi-colour, velocity- and pressure-sensitive pads handle drums and arpeggios, and they act as colour-coded clip launchers in Ableton Live. An arpeggiator with tap tempo and roll is built in. All controls can be assigned to parameters in supported software, including Ableton Live, Logic, Pro Tools, Cubase, Reason and Cakewalk/Sonar.
The keyboard is class-compliant and powered over USB, so it works with Mac or Windows without a power supply. A 5-pin MIDI out connects hardware synths and modules, and there are sustain and expression pedal inputs. Ableton Live Lite and a Loopmasters sample library are included.
