Impulse 25 is a compact MIDI controller built around a 25-note, piano-style keybed with semi-weighted action and assignable aftertouch. The keys are scanned 10,000 times per second by a high-rate scanning system, intended to register fine differences in playing. Eight multi-colour, velocity-sensitive backlit pads handle drums, arpeggios and clip launching.
Control comes from eight endless encoders, one slider, six transport buttons, pitch bend and modulation wheels, octave/transpose buttons and function and control-switch buttons, all shown on a blue-backlit LCD. An arpeggiator with tap tempo and roll is built in. Preset control mappings cover Ableton Live, Logic, Pro Tools, Cubase, Reason and Cakewalk/Sonar, and in Ableton Live the pads show clip status by colour.
The unit is class-compliant and powered over USB, so it works with Mac or Windows without a separate power supply. A 5-pin DIN MIDI output connects it to hardware synths and modules, and sockets are provided for sustain and expression pedals. Ableton Live Lite and a Loopmasters sample library are included.
