The TLM 170 R is a pressure-gradient condenser microphone built around a dual-diaphragm K89 capsule. A rotary switch selects omni, wide cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid or figure-8. A sixth switch position hands pattern selection over to the optional N248 power supply.
A –10 dB preattenuation switch raises the maximum SPL from 144 dB to 154 dB. A second switch applies a 100 Hz low cut. The transformerless fet 100 output stage and low self-noise of 14 dB-A allow it to handle both quiet and very loud sources. Its dynamic range is 130 dB.
The microphone runs on 48 V phantom power and connects through a 3-pin XLR. Remote pattern control uses voltage sensing: the phantom voltage is varied within the P48 tolerance, so no special cable is needed and other microphones on the same supply are unaffected. It is available in nickel or black, singly or as a stereo set.
