Description

The SM 69 is a stereo microphone built around vacuum-tube electronics. It was the first large-diaphragm stereo microphone in Neumann's range, and it belongs to the maker's historical product line.

Its main feature is individual pattern control. Each of the two capsules has its own polar pattern, and the selection is made remotely at the power supply instead of on the microphone body. This lets the stereo image be adjusted without touching the microphone once it is positioned.

Because the design is tube based, the microphone works together with a dedicated power supply that also carries the pattern switching. The product page lists separate sections for data and diagrams, accessories, downloads and order information, but the details of those sections are not included in the page text.
