M 49
The M 49 is a historical Neumann tube condenser microphone with a remotely switchable, continuously variable directional pattern. It uses the same large diaphragm capsule as the U 47 and suits studio recording where pattern control is needed.

The M 49 was the first studio microphone to offer a continuously variable directional pattern. Its large diaphragm capsule is the same type used in the U 47, and the model is regarded as one of the most sought-after tube microphones ever made.
The pattern is switched remotely, so it can be adjusted from a distance rather than at the microphone itself. It belongs to Neumann's historical range of vintage studio designs.
Neumann reissued the design in 2022 as the M 49 V Set. The original M 49 is listed as a historical product, so it is mainly of interest to collectors and studios looking for classic tube microphones.
