The M 49 V is a large-format tube condenser microphone based on the last historical revision, the M 49 c. It uses the same circuit and the K 49 capsule, but replaces the no-longer-available Telefunken AC701k with a lower-noise subminiature tube. The polar pattern can be varied continuously from omnidirectional through cardioid to figure-8, and is controlled remotely from the power supply unit.
The set includes the NM V pattern control unit, a linear power supply that supplies the correct heater voltage for the M 49 V and for historical M 49 microphones, and adapts to the local mains voltage. Also supplied are a yoke mount with mechanical decoupling and a cable holder, a KC 5 cable, an MZ 49 A shock mount and an aluminium case. The microphone is handmade in Germany.
The microphone connects through an RF-proof 7-pin connector taken from the M 249 broadcast version, via the KC 5 cable to the NM V, which has an XLR 3 F output. Two internal switches, set only by Neumann Service, allow a 12 Hz high-pass or a fixed cardioid pattern, and can be ordered made to order.
