Binaural dummy head stereo microphone with two omnidirectional condenser capsules in artificial ears. It is aimed at immersive headphone-oriented recording of music, drama and noise documentation, and its recordings also work on loudspeakers.

The KU 100 is a head-shaped binaural microphone with a pressure-transducer capsule fitted in each artificial ear. Placed at the listening position, it captures a two-channel image intended for headphone playback, with lateral and vertical localisation and room decay surrounding the listener. The response is diffuse-field equalised, so recordings also translate to loudspeakers as a conventional-sounding stereo image.
The circuitry is transformerless. Maximum SPL for 0.5% THD is 135 dB, or 145 dB with the -10 dB preattenuation switch. A second switch selects a 150 Hz low cut, a 40 Hz low cut or a linear response. Both switches act on both channels. Typical uses include classical recording, radio drama, experimental pop and ambient work, plus noise analysis in cars and workplaces.
Output is a balanced 5-pin XLR stereo connector and unbalanced BNC outputs. It runs on P48 phantom power, six AA batteries or the supplied external 9 V power supply. A 5/8"-27 thread on the top and bottom fits standard stands, with adapters for 1/2" and 3/8" studs.
