The KMS 104 is a vocal microphone that puts a true condenser capsule into a stage-ready body. It uses a tight, frequency-independent cardioid pattern with strong rejection of sound from the rear, which helps gain before feedback. The capsule handles sound pressure levels up to 150 dB, and the frequency response is smooth with an airy top end.
It is tuned for close miking. A fixed low-cut filter compensates for proximity effect, and the hardened steel headgrille contains an internal pop screen that also keeps moisture from the capsule. Handling noise is very low, and the head amplifier sits in a thick-walled housing. Besides lead vocals, the maker lists percussion, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, harmonica, acoustic guitar and guitar cabinets as suitable sources.
The output is transformerless and low impedance (50 ohms), which allows cable runs of up to 300 m. The mic needs 48 V phantom power and connects through a 3-pin XLR. It is supplied in nickel or black with an SG 105 stand clamp and a padded nylon bag.
