The KMA is a lavalier-style clip-on microphone from Neumann's historical range, dating from 1968. It was developed as an improved version of the earlier lavalier design and uses an omnidirectional capsule for pick-up. The amplifier is not built into the microphone body but sits in a separate, detached unit.
A notable feature is the choice of power source. The amplifier can be run from batteries or from phantom power, so the microphone can be used on its own or with a console or preamp that supplies phantom power.
The model should not be confused with the current KM A, which is a modular microphone system and a different product. The KMA described here is a vintage item that is no longer in the active Neumann line-up.
