KM 183
The KM 183 is a small diaphragm condenser microphone with an omnidirectional pressure-transducer capsule, equalized for a flat diffuse-field response. It suits studio, stage, TV and radio work on acoustic instruments, drums, choir, organ and stereo or surround setups.

The KM 183 is the omnidirectional member of Neumann's non-modular Series 180, alongside the cardioid KM 184 and hypercardioid KM 185. It uses a pressure-transducer capsule with a uniform, largely frequency-independent pattern, so off-axis sound keeps its tonal balance. That helps in multi-microphone, stereo and surround setups. The capsule is equalized flat in the diffuse field. Close to a source in the free field, it has a treble lift of about 7 dB at 10 kHz.
The transformerless head amplifier gives a dynamic range of 127 dB, with 13 dB-A equivalent noise and a maximum SPL of 140 dB at 0.5% THD. As a pressure transducer it has no low-frequency roll-off, which suits orchestra and church organ recording. The low-impedance output can drive cable runs of up to 300 m (1000 ft). The body is 22 mm in diameter and 107 mm long, so it is visually discreet for TV and radio use.
It connects over a 3-pin XLR and takes 48 V phantom power (P48). It comes in nickel (KM 183) or black (KM 183 mt), as a single microphone or a stereo set. Each microphone ships with a WNS 100 windscreen and an SG 21 bk stand mount swivel.
