Three-way, tri-amplified midfield studio monitor with a 10" woofer, 3" class midrange dome and 1" tweeter in a waveguide. It targets project, music, broadcast and post-production studios mixing at 1.5–3 m listening distance.

The KH 420 is an active three-way midfield monitor with separate Class AB amplifiers for the woofer (330 W) and for the midrange and tweeter (140 W each). A 265 mm bass driver, a fabric-dome midrange driver and a 25 mm alloy fabric-dome tweeter in a rotatable elliptical waveguide cover the range from 26 Hz to 22 kHz (±3 dB). Dispersion is wide horizontally and narrower vertically, which limits reflections from a desk or console.
The cabinet is made from LRIM moulded material and uses front-facing bass reflex ports that can be flush mounted. Acoustic controls cover bass, low-mid and treble in four positions each, plus a parametric equaliser, input gain and output level controls, a dimmable status logo and protection circuits (thermal limiters, woofer soft clip and excursion limiting). Maximum output is 122.4 dB SPL per speaker in half space.
The analogue input is an electronically balanced XLR with ground lift. An optional DIM 1 module adds digital XLR and BNC inputs, a BNC output and a 0–409.5 ms delay for lip sync or distance compensation. The monitor can be aligned with a KH 750 DSP subwoofer and the MA 1 measurement microphone, and accepts a range of mounting accessories and the REK 4 remote electronics kit.
