The MDC USB DSD is a hardware module for NAD's Modular Design Construction (MDC) system. Fitted into a compatible NAD stereo amplifier together with a software upgrade, it gives the amp a USB input for computer audio. The module is listed for the M32, M33, M12, C 388, C 368 and C 658.
The USB connection is asynchronous and uses USB Audio 2. Audio bypasses the computer's own DAC and clock circuitry and is decoded by the DAC already in the NAD amplifier. PCM is supported up to 24-bit/192kHz. DSD files up to DSD256 can be played by converting them to 24-bit/192kHz PCM.
The module can be used with local files on a computer's drive or with streaming services such as Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal or Qobuz. Amplifier-specific software upgrades are provided for the M32, M12, C388 and C368, together with a NAD USB Audio Driver for Windows 7 and above and a data sheet in PDF form.
