The C 588 is a belt-drive turntable that plays 33 and 45 rpm records, with speed changed manually and 78 rpm possible using a special pulley. An electronically regulated motor and an isolated power supply keep rotation steady, with the speed variance stated as under ±0.35 % at 33 rpm and under ±0.30 % at 45 rpm.
The platter is glass with a felt mat, running on a precision milled aluminium sub-platter and a hardened steel bearing assembly. The plinth is solid MDF with tuned isolation feet, and a low-resonance dust cover protects the record during playback. The 9-inch carbon fibre tonearm has adjustable vertical tracking angle (VTA) for cartridge alignment and ships with an Ortofon 2M Red moving magnet cartridge already fitted, plus a counterweight for cartridges of 6–13 g.
The deck connects to an amplifier's MM phono input through a detachable RCA cable that has a separate ground connection. It runs from a universal switch mode power supply (15 V DC / 0.8 A, 100–240 V AC).
