The C 558 is a manual belt-drive turntable. The motor is isolated from the platter, and a regulated power supply generates a clean AC signal for the precision AC motor to keep rotation speed even. Speed is changed by hand between 33⅓ and 45 rpm.
The platter is heavy glass with a felt mat and turns on a precision bearing with a hardened steel shaft. The plinth is solid MDF, and the dust cover has a low-resonance design with an adjustable friction hinge. These parts are intended to limit vibration reaching the stylus.
The 9-inch tonearm has adjustable tracking force and anti-skating. An Ortofon OM10 cartridge with an elliptical stylus is already fitted, so the deck is ready to use once set up. The turntable outputs a phono-level signal from the cartridge, so it is used with a phono input or a separate phono stage; the page lists no built-in preamp or connection details beyond the tonearm cable capacitance.
