Braids

Braids is a voltage-controlled monophonic digital sound source described as a macro-oscillator: each of its algorithms is a complex synthesis technique presented as an oscillator. Timbres that would otherwise call for a case of oscillators, filters, VCAs, waveshapers and ring modulators are available from one module.

Every model is shaped by two continuously variable parameters, TIMBRE and COLOR, both with voltage control. They work as meta-parameters that sweep through the useful range of each algorithm and often alter several aspects of the sound at once. The models cover classic analog-style waveforms, direct digital synthesis, FM, vowel/formant synthesis, physical and percussive models, wavetables, chord synthesis, and several noise and particle sources.

A menu provides extra settings that are not CV controllable, including bit-depth and sample-rate reduction, a CV-input quantizer with many scales, VCO-style detuning and drift, a built-in AD envelope and a META mode for CV-controlled model selection via the FM input. Audio is processed at 96kHz and 16-bit. The module is listed as discontinued.
