AVB Switch

The switch provides six 1-Gigabit AVB ports for AVB devices, including other switches, and also passes standard Ethernet traffic on the same network. Any port can be designated for non-AVB use if needed. It handles automatic device discovery and network bandwidth management between connected AVB devices, so setup needs no IT expertise.

AVB gives guaranteed quality of service, so existing audio and video streams are maintained regardless of other traffic. It also supplies a network-wide time base for better-than-sample-accurate phase lock across devices, with timing accuracy down to the nanosecond. In a MOTU AVB system, network-wide sync can be established with one click.

Devices connect with standard shielded CAT-5e or CAT-6 cables up to 100 meters long. Theoretically, up to 150 MOTU AVB devices can be linked using 37 switches, carrying up to 512 simultaneous AVB audio streams: 4,096 channels with 8-channel streams or 8,192 with 16-channel streams. Actual performance depends on topology and connected devices.
