The 491 combines a network streamer, preamplifier, DAC, phono stage and headphone amplifier in one chassis. Streaming runs on MOON's MiND 2 platform, which uses UPnP and is Roon Ready, with support for Apple AirPlay, Bluetooth, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect and TIDAL Connect. The MiND Controller app for iOS and Android gives access to Qobuz, TIDAL, Deezer and Spotify.
The DAC section uses two ESS 9039Q2M converters in dual-mono mode with a precision clock. A proprietary hybrid power supply (MHP) provides low-noise DC power to the audio circuits. The phono stage accepts MM and MC cartridges, with impedance, capacitance, gain and equalization curve set from the menu.
A large colour display shows volume, album artwork and system information. Control is by front-panel buttons, the CRM-4 aluminum remote (the BRM-1 Bluetooth remote is also compatible) or the app. The dual-Ethernet port carries MOONLink, a USB service port handles firmware updates, and a modular board allows future upgrades. Cheeks are bead-blasted aluminum in black or silver.
