The № 626 is a stereo preamplifier built around a fully discrete, direct-coupled, fully balanced dual-monaural signal path. Volume is set by a discrete, balanced R-2R ladder control. Each analog input has its own switching relay, and the power supply and digital circuits are shielded from the analog and phono sections.
Digital audio is handled by the Precision Link III DAC, based on the ESS ES9039PRO chip with jitter-elimination circuitry and balanced, discrete I/V stages. There are six digital inputs plus an asynchronous USB-C input for DSD and PCM up to 32-bit / 384kHz. A Class A MM/MC phono preamplifier and a Class A headphone amplifier are included. A toroidal linear power supply feeds the unit.
Analog inputs are two balanced XLR and three RCA pairs, plus an RCA phono input. Outputs are one balanced XLR pair, one RCA pair and a headphone jack. The outputs can run full-range or with a selectable fourth-order 80Hz filter for use with powered subwoofers. Trigger, IR and source link connectors allow system integration, and a handheld remote is supplied. The chassis is aluminum and steel in black with a silver plinth, a glass centre panel and red accent lighting, on vibration-damping feet.
