The BX5 D3 is a powered two-way near-field monitor. A 5-inch (127 mm) Kevlar woofer handles lows and mids, and a 1-inch (25 mm) natural silk dome tweeter sits in a computer-optimised waveguide. Each driver has its own Class A/B amplifier, 60 W for the woofer and 40 W for the tweeter, with a 2.5 kHz crossover between them. Frequency response is stated as 52 Hz to 35 kHz.
The cabinet is vinyl-laminated MDF with a rear-mounted bass port. Its front panel has a fastenerless keyhole design, so no driver screw heads are visible. A front LED lights when the speaker is at the ideal monitoring angle. An Acoustic Space control adjusts low-end output to suit the room, and a volume control sets playback level.
Inputs are on the rear panel: one balanced XLR and one balanced/unbalanced TRS (1/4-inch) connector. These allow connection to audio interfaces, mixers, synthesizers and DJ gear. The speaker runs from mains at 100–120 V or 220–240 V, 50/60 Hz. Protection includes RF interference, output current limiting, over-temperature, turn-on/off transient and subsonic filtering, plus an external mains fuse.
