Pa5X is an arranger workstation built around the EDS-XP sound engine, which has 24 stereo oscillators and 160 voices of polyphony. It includes round-robin drum kits, Smooth Sound Transition between sounds, styles and songs, and an onboard sampler that imports AIFF, WAV and SF2 files. The case is aluminum with wooden side panels, and all keybeds have aftertouch. The 88-key model has a weighted piano-style action, while the 61- and 76-key models are semi-weighted.
The control surface has a programmable section of 9 buttons and 9 sliders, a Pad Matrix, a mixer section and color-matched LED buttons. Two crossfading Players can run any mix of styles, MIDI files and MP3 files, and each shows lyrics and score. Effects include up to 10 inserts, 3 master effects and a finalizer for each Player, plus dedicated vocal harmony (four voices, with Auto Pitch) and guitar processing. A SongBook with set lists stores sounds, styles, songs and effects per entry, and it can convert Pa4X SongBook data.
Connections cover MIDI, USB, HDMI for an external display, balanced outputs, four separate line outs, separate microphone and guitar inputs, and three pedal inputs. The PaAS MK2 amplification system and the ST-SV1 stand are optional.
