The microKORG combines an analog-modeling tone generator with a vocoder in a small-format instrument. The synth engine has an oscillator section, a filter section, and an amp section with distortion, plus an envelope generator and LFO for adding movement to the sound. Virtual patches allow more elaborate sound editing.
It ships with 128 programs for immediate use, a full range of effects and a freely settable arpeggiator. The vocoder is supplied with an included mini-mic, and audio inputs let the unit process an external audio source. The controls are laid out for easy access, and the unit also works as a MIDI controller.
The model was released in 2002 and a platinum-colored 15th anniversary edition (microKORG PT) followed in 2017, identical apart from colour. Production and sales of the microKORG have been discontinued. A microKORG Sound Editor software is available for the family.
