KROSS 2 is a portable workstation built around the EDS-i sound engine. It carries 1,075 internal programs, 120-voice polyphony and 128 MB of expansion PCM memory that accepts optional sound libraries. Seven effects units can run at once (five insert, two master), drawn from 134 effect types that include amp modeling, vintage units and a vocoder.
A 16-pad sampler records from the line input and stores stereo samples of up to 14 seconds per pad, with loop point editing, normalize and resampling. Longer audio files from an SD card can also be assigned to the pads. Production tools include a 16-track MIDI sequencer, a step sequencer of up to 64 steps, 772 drum patterns and an arpeggiator. A stereo audio recorder is built in.
A quarter-inch mic input and a stereo mini line input support singer-instrumentalists and vocoder use. The unit works as a USB audio and MIDI interface, and a computer editor and plug-in editor are available. It can run for up to seven hours on six AA batteries.
