Reference 4 Meta is a passive centre-channel speaker for home cinema and high-end multichannel setups. It combines a 12th-generation Uni-Q driver array, which acts as a single point source to spread sound evenly across the room, with four bass drivers in a three-way bass-reflex cabinet. The same model can also be used as a left, centre or right speaker.
Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) is a maze-like structure behind the driver that absorbs 99% of unwanted rear sound to reduce distortion. Other design features include Shadow Flare, which limits cabinet diffraction, a cabinet shaped and braced using finite element analysis with Constrained Layer Damping, and Flexible Port Technology for adjusting the speaker to the room. Each speaker is compared against a laboratory reference standard, and pairs can be matched within 0.5 dB.
Being passive, it needs an external amplifier rated for 50-400 W. It is engineered and handbuilt in Maidstone, Kent, UK. The listing shows the High-Gloss White/Champagne finish.
